ISLAMABAD: The incumbent government and opposition have reached a deadlock in the matter of drafting the proposed terms of reference (ToRs) for an inquiry into Panama Papers leaks.
Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the government had refused to accept any of the proposed TORs by the joint opposition. He said that the opposition is firm on its core questions and would not step back from any of its proposed TORs at any cost. He added that the opposition had offered the government to add any clauses or points that they wished to the list of TORs but they will not back down from their own proposed issues that need to be investigated.
Leader of the opposition in Senate and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan also confirmed the deadlock between government and opposition during the discussions.
Aitzaz also said that even if the prime minister’s name is excluded, his name would still be included by virtue of him being father of Hussain Nawaz whose name is an integral part of the Panama Papers issue. Shah Mehmood also said that if the government does not accept all 15 of our questions and out TORs that the joint opposition has drafted then all the agreements reached so far will also be nullified.
“The government must not think that they will be able to trap us in their words, we are firm on our stance and we will never back down,” he added.
