LAHORE – Ali Haider Gillani, son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, has been recovered by a joint military operation of the US-Afghan forces in the Ghazni province of Afghanistan, private TV channel reported.
The Afghan National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar in a telephone call to the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz informed that Ali Haider Gilani son of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has been recovered in a joint operation carried out by the Afghan and US security forces in Ghazni, Afghanistan.
Ali Haider’s transfer to Pakistan is being arranged following required medical check-up, Hanif said. He also said that Ali was physically fit and would soon reach Pakistan. He said that Al Qaeda-linked group was involved in the abduction.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto announced on Twitter that Ali Haider Gilani has been recovered from Afghanistan’s Ghazni province. The former prime minister received a call from the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, informing him that Ali Haider was recovered in a successful operation in Afghanistan.
Ali Haider was kidnapped by some unidentified gunmen in Multan on May 9, 2013. He was kidnapped when he was leaving a street corner meeting outside the house of a supporter at the Matti Tal Road in Multan’s Farrukh Town. At the time of the abduction, Ali Haider was contesting for the general election from PPP-200 constituency.
In Multan, celebrations begin at Gillani’s residence, where a large number of PPP activists and followers are gathering to celebrate the safe return of Ali Haider.
