LAHORE: Missile attack on Makkah is tantamount to attacking 1.5 billion Muslim population of the world, and elements responsible for attacking Makkah are real enemies of Muslim unity and brotherhood, said clerics and religious scholars belonging to 28 different political and religious schools of thought at ‘ Haramain Sharifain Defense Conference’ that was held on Sunday at the Lahore Press Club (LPC) under the aegis of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC).
Representatives of 28 different religious and political organisations – addressing the participants of the conference – urged the government to designate a high-level delegation to Saudi Arabia to announce Pakistan’s cooperation for the defence and security of Haramain Sharifain. The participants of the conference also announced with mutual consent to observe Friday, November 4, as Defence Day for Haramain Sharifain.
PUC Chairman Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi presided over the conference, where the participants adopted a resolution to denounce Houthi tribes’ missile attack on Makkah. The resolution stated that the Houthis and their supporters were not just targeting Yemen or Saudi Arabia, but the holy places of Muslims. It stated that the entire Muslim world was united for the defence and security of Haramain Sharifain in the leadership of the Saudi government. It said that Muslim youths of the Islamic countries were ready to take any action for the defence and security of Haramain Sharifain on the instructions of the Saudi government.
The resolution adopted at the conference also demanded a meeting of the Islamic Summit on a priority grounds in Makkah to devise an explicit stance of the Muslim world to contain aggression of Houthi tribes against Haramain Sharifain.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashrafi said that it was the responsibility of the government of Pakistan and security forces to take appropriate action for the defence and security of Haramain Sharifain. He said that Makkah and Madina were centres of Muslim unity and brotherhood, and elements responsible for launching an attack on Makkah were neither Muslims nor had any affiliation with Islam. He said that Houthi tribes had crossed all limits, and “now is the time to devise a mechanism to contain their growing aggression”.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan Secretary General Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari urged the government to announce an explicit stance to cooperate with the Saudi government against aggression of Houthi tribes.
