KARACHI: Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Karachi has disclosed Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Nasir Abbas possesses a business passport in his name. Corruption cases against Nasir Abbas (20 grade government officer) have been in progress since February this year, an official of ACE told Daily Times.
Assistant Director Branch II, ACE Karachi disclosed Nasir posseses Passport Number KQ 1013801 issued on April 15, 2015. He said the DG passport was issued a letter on March 17 2016 to explain why he needed a business passport.
The first inquiry by ACE started in February as the Authority issued a letter on February 2nd to Nasir Abbas. Nasir Abbas failed to submit a declaration form to National Registration along with concerned papers at the time of the issuance of the passport that he was a government servant. ACE investigation officer Imran Allahi Baksh claimed that Nasir Abbas had put pressure on him to put the inquiry in ‘cold storage’.
ACE, during their enquiry, revealed that he had been traveling abroad on a Canadian as well as Pakistan business passport. He committed violation of the Passport Act, which is a crime. The enquiry report and the official documents have been attached and are being sent to the immigration department for further action and registration of cases. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has also recorded the statements of Nasir Abbas during enquiry on land scams and mega corruption of billion of rupees when he ran PD Lyari Expressway. Investigation is also underway about his assets, and how he was able to travel abroad so frequently.
ACE is also conducting an inquiry about a land grabbing at Block-6 Gulistan-e-Johar with the connivance of Shahzad Project Director Surjani Town, an official of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Nasir also slipped abroad in 1996 after it was disclosed that he was involved in looting of national exchequer. Some 13 officials of KDA also left Pakistan on the same charges .
