Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a nationwide climate and agriculture emergency after devastating floods wreaked havoc across Pakistan. He said the federal government would lead recovery efforts, urging provinces to contribute their fair share to handle the disaster effectively. Nearly 1,000 lives have been lost, and thousands of acres of crops are submerged, primarily in Punjab. The floods have now entered Sindh, causing further concern about food security and infrastructure damage.
During a federal cabinet meeting, Shehbaz directed immediate assessment of the agricultural damage and rehabilitation needs. He emphasized that Pakistan cannot face the climate threat alone and called for urgent action to safeguard farmers and communities. The premier assigned the Minister for Climate Change to oversee relief operations and ensure swift support for affected families. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for better planning and stronger climate resilience policies to prevent future catastrophes.
In a strong statement, Shehbaz condemned anti-state propaganda, warning that those spreading sedition must be rooted out. He paid heartfelt tribute to Major Adnan Aslam, who was martyred in a clash with terrorists, praising the bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces. He recounted meeting Major Adnan’s family at the funeral, where his sisters expressed pride and a willingness to sacrifice for the country. Shehbaz stressed that such devotion defines the nation’s spirit and must inspire unity.
The prime minister also celebrated his recent visit to China, calling it a major diplomatic success. He revealed that discussions on CPEC Phase II would soon finalize investments in agriculture, business-to-business ventures, and special economic zones. China is expected to contribute 85% investment, while Pakistan will provide 15%. He said these projects would create jobs, boost trade, and strengthen Pakistan’s economy, reinforcing the country’s strategic partnership with China.
Shehbaz further mentioned signing new agreements with American companies for mineral extraction, underlining Pakistan’s commitment to balancing its ties with both the US and China. He highlighted previous energy achievements, such as installing LNG plants during Nawaz Sharif’s government, and promised continued progress. In addition, he condemned Israel’s recent attack on Qatar, calling for global unity against aggression and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Palestine. The prime minister concluded by urging collective action to rebuild and protect Pakistan’s future.
